September 10, 2009 The files on the server have been scoured by the host. I have requested a manual review of the website from Google. I don't know how long this takes. I can tell you that my security system, Zone Alarm Suite, is not reporting any attacks. I will let you know as soon as I hear from Google.

September 7, 2009 I am long past due getting my act together and updating our cousins website. For this section I will add everything I received in chronological order. I'll return to the orginal format with new information that you send.
I can't believe this. I finished the update last night and then . . . lost it. Grrrrrr, now to start again.
If anyone is accessing the photos from the gallery website through Mozilla's Firefox, you will see a message, "Reported Attack Site! This web site at muschitzer-shmagin-cousins.org has been reported as an attack site and has been blocked based on your security preferences." The site control tells me there is no reason for the message. I am working with Google (Mozilla) to understand and eliminate this problem.

February 29, 2008 Hi all, This is Dave Muser. I wanted to put you all on notice that Gerry & I have moved. No, they didn't kick us out of the last place. I just didn't want to pay them any more rent. OK, our new address is 7121 Park Heights Ave, Unit 406, Baltimore, MD 21215, Phone 410-764-2707. After 40 years they changed my number, The nerve of them.

By the way, we could use some news and new photos.

I don't mean to say I've been a bit frustrated, but I have been. And I don't mean to say that I'm losing my mind, but I am. Now if I throw in a few health escapades (all of them thankfully healed or healing), the result is that I have been remiss in updating our website for all to read about the M-S cousins.
There have been some interesting occasions to report:

On January 26,2008, Len and I attended the Bar Mitzvah of Zachary Licht, son of Beth and Seth Licht and grandson of Sandy and the late Marvin Marshall. We sat with Sandy and had a real catch up conversation. His aunt Lori and her husband Rich and their daughter Michelle were there along with Zachary's uncle Jay, his cousins Andrew and Melissa all the way from Hawaii.
It was a lovely affair and everyone had a great time. We were really glad to see that family who we have not seen in quite some time.

And in closing --
It is now December 8th, and you may well be wondering where I've been. I've been sitting in the house watching to see if my fingers and toes are developing webbing and knowing that I am molding.
Most of you do not look at Hawai'i weather. Day after day of sunshine and tropical breezes doesn't make for interesting news. But every now and then, Mother Nature sends us a zinger. We've had torrential rains, winds gusting to 80 mph, blizzard conditions on Haleakala and the Big Island Volcanoes, flooding, mud slides, houses pushed off their foundations. Whew! What a mess.
During the past week that we have been at home, we (all islands) were without power most of two days and dealing with heavy rain and flooding the rest of the time. Many areas have been without water as well. Fred and I have been very fortunate with a power outage only. On the positive side, dinner by candlelight is delightful even if dinner is cold canned soup.
On the negative side, no updates. When the power came on one morning at 2am, I really didn't feel like hopping up to write or do laundry or iron or even charge my laptop in case the power went off again, which it did at 8am.
When the weather permitted, or at least gave us a fighting chance, we did laundry and shopped to replace food in the pantry. The rest of the time we played gin rummy and listened to a battery operated radio.
I’m attaching a photo that shows our recent rainfall. Kihei is located near the fuscia blob near the word Kahalui.

Now for what happened on the rest of the trip. The remaining stops were at places we have been before on this and other trips. On November 28, we did go swimming at Bora Bora. The motu at Bora Bora has no facilities with the result that we did not stay there very long. My system has its limits.
That evening was Polynesian night on the ship. All the restaurants were decorated in the theme. Passengers and crew wore their finest pareaus and lava lavas. At least the women wore their pareaus. The men chickened out on wearing lava lavas.
On November 29, 2007,
we were once again at Motu Mahana on Taha'a. More swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and picnicking.November 30, 2007,
and we're on my favorite Polynesian Island. Off we went for a walk around the island east of our usual haunts. It was hotter than Hades! We returned to the ship dripping wet. To the showers!
After dinner we were entertained by the champion of last year’s Tahitian Dance Competition. Try as I might, I cannot get my opu and okole going the way the dancers do. I have enough to do dancing Hula.
December 1, 2007
We docked in Papeete and were scheduled to disembark after lunch. By 1:30pm, we were in our day suite at the Radisson. This Radisson has a beautiful illusion edge pool, and we spent the afternoon lazing about.
After dinner, the same troop that entertained us on Moorea, entertained us at the Radisson. And me without my camera. Rats.
At 10pm, it was time to head for the airport and our midnight flight home. We landed in Honolulu during in a downpour. Next, we had a short-hop to Maui between cloud bursts. All things considered, we were very lucky to get home when we did.
And this brings me back to where I left off on November 28th. As time permits, I'll try to upload some photos.
Ok cousins, now it's your turn! Send your news to share with everyone.

We are at sea. This wasn't the plan, but then Mother Nature will have her way. Our landings at Rarotonga and Aitutaki were cancelled due to high winds and high surf. I have an interesting photo of the tender coming aboard with the French Polynesian Customs and Immigration Agents.
On to Plan B, Raitea in the Society Islands of French Polynesia. This was not a planned stop. I suspect we will be there for 2 nights.
Some of the passengers are feeling squirrelly. They really want to walk on land. Funny, I'm quite content just sailing, reading and talking. But not using my computer. I have problems with motion sickness. The computer screen and I have been at odds. The ship's motion hasn't bothered Fred. He is online a few times a day checking the news and weather, researching questions that come up in conversation and just being curious.
And so, until Raitea.

We never did go ashore in the Yasawa Islands. The winds were 25 knots; The seas were 4m; The Wilsons passed.
Some folks did go ashore and told us of a village of some 400 people living an almost, but not quite, subsistent existence. Until 1987, Yasawa was closed to land-based tourism. There has been limited cruise operations since the 1950's, but passengers had to stay aboard their ships. Local residents did not benefit from the passengers presence.
In the early 1980's, a freehold real-estate status emerged and resort locations have been popping up on the larger islands. I’m not sure the local residents benefit more from this arrangement from that before, but no one asked me.
We did go ashore at our next stop, Savusavu

I’ve been a bit lazy with my notes. Sailing does that to me. I find it deliciously relaxing to watch the ocean with or without whales or even islands. Add a book, a long cool drink and Fred, and I just laze away.

From Erin Cox
Greetings! Just a quick note. My name is Erin Cox. I am on the very last page of the Muschitzer geneolgy tree. I am probably not remembered by many, but I am there...page 5, look it up....LOLOLOL
Attached are some pictures of me, my dog Abbie, and Mike Hannon, my partner of 13 years. (Click on Muschitzer-Sandberg-Cox Family) We are happily making a life on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. My brother Sean Cox, the very last name on the geneology tree, lives in Florida with his wife and daughter, Shelby. I probably only get to see them once a year, but we speak on the phone and by e-mail quite often.
Everything is well here on the Shore, although unbearably hot. Fortunately, the ocean is but 15 minutes away. My contact information appears below, if anyone wants to touch base.
Take care and God Bless, Erin

Greetings from Moscow!
Let me introduce myself. My name is Rivkie Biron. My father is Rabbi Chona (Arthur) Muser, my grandfather is "Saba" David Muser, my great-grandfather was "Poppy" Louis (Muschitzer) Muser, ob"m, my great-great grandfather was…well, I guess you've figured out how I'm related. I'm married to Binyomin Biron, formerly of L.A. and have 3 adorable children: Dovi 4, Esti 2 1/2 and Chani 7 months. We live in Moscow and have lived here for the past year and few months. I won't say too much about living here - you never know who will read this, in Russia we learn to be suspicious :) - except that it's a crazy place to live and in some ways hasn't changed much since the USSR days.
Officially, we live in Israel. We own an apartment in Kiryat Sefer, a city about halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. We came here for 2 years so that my husband can learn and teach in the yeshiva here. Like I said, we've been here for a year so have another year to go. Believe me, I'm counting the days until I can return to normal life! (And by the way, for all the mothers reading this: yes, I had my youngest in Moscow and yes, I'm crazy for doing it. Thank G-d we both survived the birth intact.)
My oldest, Dovi, is trilingual. We speak English at home, he knows Hebrew from living in Israel (though to be honest, although he still understands Hebrew completely, he is forgetting how to speak it somewhat) and he speaks Russian in pre-school. My 2 1/2 year is "only" bilingual. She does not remember living in Israel and therefore does not speak Hebrew but her Russian is pretty good. Her comprehension is much better than mine! Makes sense, considering that I don't spend 7 hours in a Russian-speaking pre-school every day!
I am a stay-at-home mom, taking care of Chani and the house. It's definitely more challenging than running a household in Israel, but I try my best. In Israel I worked in both real estate and insurance companies, but here I am unable to work in those fields because the law is that only someone whose permanent residence in Moscow is allowed to work here. I think Moscow is the only city in the world to have such a law! My husband doesn't have that problem because he is listed as a student in the official city registration. (Yes, we did have to register with the police. And get a visa to come here. And get an invitation from my husband's yeshiva in order to get a visa in the first place. Some things never change.)
I guess that's enough about us. Basically, my reason for writing was just to say hi and to tell all that if anyone is in our neck of the woods, we would love to hear from you, see you and/or take you around. It's not so far-fetched, by the way. Many American companies have business dealings in Russia and just a few weeks ago we hosted a woman in the aerospace industry who was here for an international conference. So if you'll be around, send us an email at biron1@gmail.com or contact my grandfather for our phone information.
Wishing everyone a relaxing summer, Rivkie Biron and family

Happy "belated" New Year. The Frankels and their offspring are all well. 2006 was an eventful year. Starting backwards, Bruce got married to the love of his life, Kathy on Dec. 29th and they are residing in Winston-Salem, NC. Melissa (his daughter) was the maid of honor and Blaine (his son was best man), see photos. Len & I had a few health issues which got resolved. Senior years have us visiting more doctors than we care to. We were all saddened at the passing of our sister Norma in August. Melanie & Bernice are taking good care of their dad. Of course when you talk about his great grandkids, Phil's face lights up. In May we have two college graduations. Stacy Reader from Kean University in NJ and Melissa Frankel from the University of Miami. We are in touch with some cousins and will try to get to all of you in 2007.
Much love from Len & me. Marilyn

Once again I happy to announce the addition to our family. No, not another baby. This time it's the occasion of the marriage of our Grandson, Eliezer Shenkin to Anna Ustrayhk. The wedding took place in London, England on Dec. 28, 2006. Eliezer is the son of Barbara (nee Muser) and Zvi Shenkin. Go to the Photo Gallery to see Anna and Eliezer. I'm happy to report there was a happy contingent from the States that attended the nuptials.
We hope you all had a happy, peaceful and joyous new year. With love and regards to all. Gerry & Dave

From Jack & Marian (Muser) West
Dear Family and Friends,
We hope your 2006 proved to be all that you dreamed of, and could imagine. Ours was dominated by one, four letter word – WORK. Jack spent much of the year in sunny and warm – not – Detroit and Milwaukee, and Marian spent most of the year with ones and zeros, with only two weekends off from June – November. Fun – not as much as we had anticipated for 2006. For the bit of fun we did have, however, we took advantage to the max, and we have tried to share those experiences here. Hopefully our tales will help when you are deciding which direction to turn.
Jack took a fishing trip in January, leaving out of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on the Royal Star. The trip was steady fishing, and Jack caught 5 yellow fin tuna between 150 – 255 pounds. Thank goodness we have food for another year. Since Marian could not get on the trip, she attended her niece’s wedding in St. Louis instead. Neither the fishing trip, nor St Louis produced very warm temperatures or sunny skies, so we set our sites on an All inclusive in Nassau, Bahamas in February.
We went to Breezes in Nassau for 3 nights to soak up the sun and do something we rarely do -- relax. We took full advantage of the beach, beautiful blue water, bubbling hot tub, food and drink. We played many games of pool and ping pong each night, and really enjoyed ourselves!! We spent one afternoon on a snorkeling trip and we were very happy we had our wet suits. When the crew put on theirs, we knew we were right to bring ours. The reefs were teaming with incredibly beautiful fish and coral. One of the stops was to snorkel with the sharks. Needless to say, that’s were Marian’s snorkel experience ended for this trip, but Jack was right in there. Our experience with the All Inclusive was so positive, we snuck another short vacation in, in June, to Cancun, Mexico, to fill our sun banks once again.
Although Cancun, Mexico was warm, we found that not all All Inclusives are the same. Our biggest surprise was the mosquitoes. Since Marian is extremely allergic to the pesky critters, it did not make for a fun time being bitten day and night. We also learned to request a room away from the “action”. Our room was over the bar area were the party continued into the wee hours. We were finally able to change rooms. Although there are probably wonderful All Inclusives in Cancun, we will not return. We were less than impressed with the food, drink, facilities, area, sea life, and accommodations. In addition, getting in and out of Mexico was a hassle.
In July we decided we needed to get back to our “roots” and explore the beautiful country that we live in, especially in our search for waterfalls. We decided on North Carolina, a quick and easy plane ride from BWI over 4th of July. The treasure of the trip was Dupont State Forest in western North Carolina near Brevard. There were 4 spectacular falls, all thundering away – lots of spray and power. One of the falls, Bridal Veil, was featured in the film, The Last of the Mohicans. You could actually walk behind the falls, but we decided it looked too slippery and viewed from a distance. We bought a book of waterfalls in North Carolina for another visit, hopefully in the near future.
For our annual trip around Labor Day, we decided to travel to a state that we had not visited together. We choose Idaho, and we were immensely impressed with the beauty of the state. We drove ~ 975 miles in the 5 days we were there and saw Hell’s Canyon, many Alpine lakes, had incredible drives along raging rivers, but only saw one waterfall. Amazingly the trees had already started to change colors, and the greens, yellows, oranges, and reds were an artist’s palate of incredible colors. The Alpine lakes were deep, and beautiful shades of blue and green. Our most impressive stop was the Craters of the Moon National Monument. This is a volcanic area made up of splatter cones, cinder cones and lava tubes. The neatest experience was walking through a 30’ x 50’ x 800’ lava tube by ourselves, with no guides and, at times, little light. It was such an incredible feeling to be in the tube and scramble over the rocks and squeeze through a hole to re-emerge into the volcanic surroundings.
Our last trip together for the year was in October when we once again embarked on an All inclusive in Freeport, Bahamas. We were incredibly impressed with the Wyndam, where the food and drink were wonderful, and the facility was beautiful. We laid on the beach under a wood cabana, and snorkeled off the beach to a coral reef, not 10 feet from the sand. The water was warm and inviting and the variety and colors of the fish were incredible. After all the long hours we had both been working, it was just what we needed to lay in the warm sun, take long walks along the beach and just enjoy being with each other. We definitely hope to return to this All Inclusive the next time we need a break. We recommend it highly!!
Jack was able to sneak in another fishing trip on the Royal Star in November, leaving out of and returning to San Diego. Jack had expected a smaller class of tuna, and wasn’t disappointed when he caught 6 tuna in the 100 – 160 pound class, a couple of nice sized wahoos, some dorado, and other native fish to the Ridge. All in all, the trip was a lot of boat riding, and the classic, “Eat, Sleep and Fish”. We have plenty of tuna to go around!!
Marian’s sister Lynn added a new addition to the family with the birth of Daniel Spencer on 11/26. Daniel is the 1st nephew, of Marian’s 12 nieces and nephews and 4 great nieces and nephews who actually resides in Maryland. We are sure he will therefore have lots of attention and be totally spoiled.
We will end the year with Marian jetting off to London the end of December for her nephew’s wedding, and Jack continuing to preserve the balance of nature (i.e. by hunting).
We will begin 2007 with Jack once again embarking on the Royal Star out of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and Marian flying to California for 2 weeks for work. Our goal, however, is to return to our vacation a month. Here’s to living every minute to the fullest. Thank goodness we both truly enjoy what we do. We hope you all have joys in your life.

Aloha Cousins, This has been quite a morning in Hawaii. So far there have been three earthquakes, 6.5, 5.8, 4.2, and some 25 aftershocks. Most of the damage was on the Big Island of Hawaii. All of the state was without power - some counties for a longer time than others. South Maui, where we live, was without power for less than two hours. While 6.8 may not be much by world standards, it was more than enough for us. It is a very strange and frightening experience to have your home vibrating and rolling around you. All thanks to G-d, there have been no fatalities reported.
With love from Fred and Linda, rocking and rolling in Maui

Some good news from Eryl Cox about Len Marshall!
Len just completed all his tests and has been given a good report. NO SURGERY NECESSARY!!! He's on his way home and probably back to his old ornery self. Gotta love that guy and, we do. Let's hope for good health from here on out for all of us.

Hi Linda,Not ignoring you honest. I'm a beginner at all of this computer stuff and trying to learn how to do things. Bob calls me Analog Annie!
We visited cousins in Chicago last week and had the most wonderful time with them. We stayed with Naomi and Norman Marshall (Aunt Esther and Uncle Ben's son). Also saw Naomi & AL Lee (Ruth & Nuss Shmagin's daughter) & their sons Aaron & Andrew. Arnie & Ellie Shmagin (Aunt Sadye & Uncle Meyer's son) flew in from Fla.
We visited with Ruth & Nuss Shmagin (Aunt Sadye & Uncle Meyer's son). Neither are well and it saddens us to see our cousins so ill. Cards & calls would be a good thing for the cousins to do.
We also had a get together in Penns. with our kids. It was our grandson Zach's graduation from high school and we all had a great time . The Frankels, Marilyn, Lenny & their kids Susan, Tim, Haley, Jay & their kids, all were there. It felt so good to be together. And of course the icing on our cake Taylor Lane who is now 3 months old and naturally the most beautiful baby in the world was also present.
Going to try to attach pictures. Bear with me and as soon as Bob is able to once again go over how to do this correctly possibly you can find a way to enter the pictures.
Hope this finds you and yours well. Promise I'm going to get
better at this.
LOVE ERYL & BOB

From David Muser - July 20, 2006
Dear Family,To keep you all up to date on the happenings in our family, let me tell you that since June of 2005 we have had an exciting year.
It all started in June of 2005 when our daughter, Lynn, married Ronnie Jacobs. The wedding was great.
In August, Gerry and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. I know, we got married in April, but August was the only time we could get the whole family together. That would include children and their spouses, grandchildren and their spouses if any, and great-grandchildren. All but one grandchild was able to make it with the exception of one grandson, but he is still on the family picture which can be seen on the Muschitzer-Muser page of the "Photo Gallery".
Ok on to the next simcha, In September we went to St. Louis for the Bar Mitzvah of our grandson, Tzvi Yitchok Muser. Then on to London in October for the Bar Mitzvah of grandson, Aaron Shenkin…Oh yes, a week before leaving for London I fractured my hip. but still got there.
Let’s get on. In January of 2006, our granddaughter Elisheva (nee Muser) married Eliezer Zeffren in St. Louis.
Me again, in February, I had a full knee replacement. Doing well now.
Back to the good stuff, in May, our granddaughter Penina (nee Muser) and Yehuda Soffer had an adorable little girl, Esther Leah.
Count as of now is 3 great-grandchildren with another due in November.
As I started this newsy (?) update with Lynn & Ronnie, I might as well end with them. In December they will present us with a new wonderful, brilliant grandchild. How do I know he/she will be wonderful and brilliant? He/She will belong to this family. Need I say more?
Looking forward to reading about all you out there.
Regards & love from Gerry and me,
Dave Muser
Earlier News and Events
For the past twenty years, David Muser has published a newsletter for the cousins. In his last edition, David announced he would be retiring from this effort. His recent email calling for a website volunteer prompted me to do something beside read and enjoy his newsletters.
David has given all the cousins a wonderful gift of his time and caring for the family. We have much to be thankful for to David and his daughter, Lynn. They are a hard act to follow. I will do my best
Well here goes!
Let me start by identifying my leaf on this large and spreading tree.
Ellen Katz and I, Linda Wilson, are the daughters of Dorothy and Samuel Herman. Samuel was one of four children of Nathan Herman and Esther Feingold.
Esther was a sister of Tamara Dvoshe Feingold.
Tamara Dvoshe was the wife of Benjamin Muschitzer and mother of Maylach Muschitzer, Ida Muschitzer, Hennye Muschitzer and Max Muschitzer
Max Muschitzer was the husband of Bertha Shmagin and father of Sadie Muschitzer, Benjamin Marshall, Max Marshall, Anna Muschitzer, Louis Muser and Sylvia Muschitzer.
David and Daniel Muser are the sons of Louis Muser and Pauline Binder.
David and I are second cousins once removed.
If you don't recall, you can read about the name Muschitzer becoming Marshall and Muser in the August 2004 Newsletter
I am also a second cousin once removed to Norman and Arnold Shmagin. Their mother, Sadie Muschitzer was married to Meyer Shmagin.
Whew! There must be an easier way.
There is. You can follow this branch and others on the internet. David Muser has been maintaining five of the family trees. David has uploaded the data to the internet at http://www.gencircles.com/users/demuser/8. The genealogy files are now available on the web site. Genealogy
My husband Fred and I are both retired chemical engineers. We live on the Island of Maui in Kihei, Hawaii. Our daughter Jennifer and her husband, Peter Hinkley, live in Naples, Florida. In fact they closed on their new home today (6/29/06) at 3pm. Jenn and Peter will be spending the July 4th weekend enjoying their move from their home in Marco Island, Florida. Fred and I will spend the weekend at the pool enjoying barbecue with a tall cool beverage.
I'll leave my sister Ellen to write her own paragraph.
I've started the Cousins Photo Gallery with some photos of the Shmagin-Muser family, Shmagin-Younesi family and of my family. I have some other photos of cousins, but I need to retrieve them from storage in Naples, FL.
All of this leads me to:
